The Laverty Family
The Laverty Family is synonymous with Touch Football
– for over 50 years their household was abuzz with hundreds of phone calls, players dropping by with entry fees & scorecards, shipments of trophies, cleats, shirts, awards, tournaments, schedules, meetings, the list goes on.
The ONTFL (Ottawa Nepean Touch Football League) was primarily run from Ed’s garage turned office – his wife Trudy was the “glue” that kept the house running as matriarch, mom and football wife. Tammy and Gordie both started playing at a young age and have been involved with the league as both players and organizer’s alongside their father for many years.
Trudy – A dedicated & loving wife to Ed for 49 years – still plays touch football with the Sizzling Sows women’s touch football team and is a devoted mom to Tammy and Gordie.
Tammy – Now back in Ottawa for the past 8 years after living in LA. for a decade, is a real estate agent with Royal LePage Team Realty & Founded Laverty Designs Inc – a company that produces sports jersey dresses for women. Tammy married her football coach Sean Hall in May of 2017 and in 2018 founded the Ed Laverty Sports Legacy Fund in her father’s memory. She is affectionally known as “Tammy Toes” a warmhearted nickname dubbed by her dad.
Gordie – A crafty quarterback who takes after his father for his savvy offense and athletic ability now proudly runs the ONTFL following his father’s 50 year tenure as president. The league is now in it’s 55th year of operation and is known as one of Ottawa’s Premiere Leagues.
